Why do you have to leave out your contacts a week before a lasik consultation?

I ask this because I was told this today by a doctor since im going in next week. I have had them in for a couple hours today. I will probably put them in for a couple hours over the next few days. How will this affect the test? I may have to reschedule. I cannot run with my gles
